Snowy January and the Start of Basketball Season

We are so sick of the snow here!! And we probably still have at least another whole month of it! The kids went back to school on January 3rd after having two weeks off for Christmas. Then they basically went for two days (Tuesday and Wednesday), then school got called off AGAIN on Thursday AND Friday due to extremely cold temperatures! So then they went back to school on Monday and I think had a full week and then they had off for Martin Luther king day on the following Monday. I have to say, January I was getting sick of my kids!!!

PLUS, then I literally did get sick. It started with Josh, then Avery got it, then me, then Josh a second time. It was this horrible hacking cough and then congestion and nose issues that kept us up lots of nights. We did finally all go to the doctor and get antibiotics. Somehow the boys didn't get sick through it all. I think it's because they are so germy that they have built up an immunity.

Other fun things that happened this month:

Basketball season has started! The boys are both having weekly practices and then Caleb has started having games. He has had two so far and been the leading scorer on his team in both! He probably made at least 10 baskets today at his game. Gabe's games haven't started yet. But when they do we will have two games to go to every Saturday.

Caleb's Science Fair: He insisted on doing something with electricity (I tried to sway him to do something easier such as "which paper towel is the most absorbent" but he wasn't having it…) I was really wishing grandpa Jack was around to help him with his project! But since he wasn't, I ordered a little kit off Amazon for $10 that had two little lightbulbs, a battery holder, and some alligator clips and wires. Caleb's project was to show with kinds of things would conduct electricity through them - therefore lighting up the lightbulb. He showed that things that were metal, like a quarter, a tin can lid, and a penny all conducted electricity, while a popsicle stick, a piece of plastic, and a piece of chalk did not. He had a lot of fun and he said the other kids thought it was really cool to it was a success.

Gabe's School Party: Every month they celebrate every kids' birthday in that month with a big party. I got to help out this month (and I think I signed up again in March for Gabe's birthday month!) The mom who planned it did so many fun games like twister, caterpillar balloon walk races, hung hungry hippo, and more.

Cub Scouts: The boys both earned their big award at this last pack night. Caleb earned his Wolf (6 months early!) and Gabe earned his Webelo (two months early!). We had an Indiana Jones themed activity that taught the principle of obedience. The had to follow instructions to get through the temple of doom, make a bull whip, and unlock a treasure chest with candy inside. Every pack night is basically the equivalent of planning a big themed monthly birthday party for my boys and their 7 friends. It's a little exhausting, but they usually have fun.

Avery's fun things: Dance lessons, going to open gym time at the gymnastics center, and getting Valentine's pictures taken are some of the fun things me and Avery have done together this month while the boys are at school and Josh is at work. She loves dance class and is doing so well participating this year. She also has been going to her preschool MWF and enjoys that too (even though some mornings she doesn't want to get out of bed…) We also all went ice skating tonight as a family in Idaho Falls, which the boys loved. Avery loved getting pushed around with us using the little walker thing on the ice!

That's about all the highlights from this month! Me and Josh are trying to get ready for Hawaii by working out and eating better! We plan to go zip lining and there is a 260 pound weight limit, so Josh is being motivated by that! haha

Christmas and Happy New Year!

It's been a while! If I could only use one word to describe the past month it would be….. SNOWY!!!
So I will just leave it at that. haha Just kidding. I could never do that.

So we had Thanksgiving with the Rhodes clan at the church in Ashton, not sure I mentioned that last time. Then we went into Christmas mode. I was busy with Etsy as usual around the holiday season and did a lot of shopping online for my kids. We had planned to go down to Utah to visit Stacey and Kamrie the week before Christmas, but we got slammed with a HUGE amount of snow and were not able to travel. So we ended up spending Christmas in good old Rexburg. Josh technically worked on Christmas Day (he was so nice to volunteer to work for someone who wanted to visit family in Mexico for the holidays…) but he did come back and forth a lot and ate dinner here at home.

For Christmas the boys each got BB guns from Santa, some books, some legos from Grandma, they each got a science kit, Caleb got a hot wheels track and a build-your-own robot. Gabe got a sketchbook and some colored pencils and some online guitar lessons. Avery got some trolls, some my little ponies set, a peppa pig camper, Moana and Maui dolls, and more. All kids got lots of clothes (which they were super excited about… haha). The most precious thing was watching the boys give gifts to Avery. Gabe made her a Pokeman coloring book, for which he drew pictures for every page. He worked on it for days leading up to Christmas. Then he had the whole thing spiral bound on Christmas even day. It's adorable and she loved it. Caleb used some box tops at his school store to buy her some fuzzy slap bracelets, which she opened and then hugged him and said "You're the best brother ever." It melted my heart.

Then this last weekend on New Year's we finally did make it down to Utah. We went to Temple Square and saw the lights, went to the ice castles, the nickel arcade, and swimming at the rec center in Provo. The kids had a great time and it was so nice to see Stacey and Kamrie and their new town house that they've moved into. We had a fun New Year's eve there playing games and watching movies.

Now today the boys went back to school and Avery goes back tomorrow! Caleb had a big event today - he got his braces taken off his top teeth! They were mainly just there to straighten out his cross-bite on his two front teeth. Now that that's fixed, he is braces free for a few years until his teeth all come in! Gabe is still going through the torture of having to wear his rubber bands. Someday hopefully they will thank us for all this pain. ;)
